During today's White House press briefing, Sarah Huckabee Sanders used the city of Chicago as the only tent-pole allowed to be entered into the gun control debate after the Las Vegas Massacre.

CNN's Jeff Zeleny asked the press secretary if Trump believes he can bring something different to the table regarding gun control.

Sanders gave the usual stock answer that "now is not the time."

"I think today is more, like I said, a day of reflection, a day of mourning, a day of gratefulness for those that were saved, and I think that there will be certainly time for that policy discussion to take place, but that's not the place that we're in at this moment," she said.

Zeleny replied that Trump had a very different view about guns years ago than he had when he ran for office.

Zeleny said, "Does he believe he can lead a bipartisan effort and at what point would that be appropriate?"

She responded by making the city of Chicago their scapegoat for refusing to engage in any talk or promote any more restrictions and background checks on those purchasing firearms and semi-automatic rifles in this country.

Sanders said, "I think one of the things that we don't want to do is try to create laws that won't create or stop these types of things from happening."

She continued, "I think if you look to Chicago, where you had over 4,000 victims of gun-related crimes. Last year they have the strictest gun laws in the country and that certainly hasn't helped there, so when that time comes for those conversations to take place, then I think we need to look at things that may actually have a real impact."

Almost all of the gun violence that Sanders speaks off in Chicago comes from gangs and not domestic terrorism, a word she refuses to utter.

And using the city of Chicago to deflect any discussion of gun control for the entire country is a coward's way out.
