After spending ridiculous amounts of his so-called presidency feuding with NFL players over their "disrespect" of the flag and anthem, Donald Trump makes jokes during the somber playing of the "retreat bugle" at a Pennsylvania military base.
Go figure.
His nutty interview with Hannity on Tuesday (the increase in the Dow will pay off the national debt!), included a moment when, at 5pm as scheduled, the bugler at Air National Guard in Middletown, Pennsylvania began to play the "bugle retreat," a military signal for the end of day. Military tradition dictates that servicemen and women salute, and civilians cover their hearts, during its playing.
Instead, Trump and Hannity continued talking.
"What a nice sound that is," Trump said. "Are they playing that for you or for me?"
"They're playing that in honor of his ratings,” he said, referring to Hannity. "He's beating everybody.”
Make it about himself and then graciously make it about Fox ratings? Trump is pathetic.
It's not surprising that a five-time deferred 71-year-old wouldn't know that. What is surprising is that the Commander in Chief had no staff person anywhere tell him that this would happen.
And how many US flags appear on the Hannity show? He's the most jingoistic host on all of Fox. Isn't there a single location intern there whose job it was to know that this bugle call would happen during the interview and prepare for it? Wouldn't that be a great propaganda moment when Sean and Donald stopped their interview to salute the military at the end of their honored day? Isn't that why they held the interview at a rural military base? For gosh sakes who's in charge at Fox these days anyway? #Fail.
