Rep Frederica Wilson called in to ABC's The View to defend her remarks about Trump's horrible call to the Johnson family. With no holds barred, Wilson called Trump "a liar" after he said he has proof against her allegations.
Rep. Wilson told the ladies of "The View" that she mentored Sgt. La David Johnson from when he was a child and she was very upset about his loss. throughout their conversation.
Whoopi Goldberg asked, "You say you were in the car. The new guy in the office says he has proof of what he says. Can you tell us what you heard?"
Rep. Wilson replied, "Well, I heard him say, well, 'You know, this is what -- I'm sure he knows that this is what he signed up for, but it still hurts.'"
She continued, "The saddest part is he kept referring to La David as 'your guy.' He never called his name. It was almost as if he forgot his name and that's what hurt the mother so badly, the wife. She said, 'He doesn't even know his name.'"
Co-host Sara Haines asked if Trump knew she was in the car and she replied that he probably did because she went along with other family members who were on their way to retrieve his body to take it to the funeral home.
Rep. Wilson said the widow was "crumpled up in a ball" in the car and had just found out that her husband's body was so badly damaged that he couldn't have an open casket.
"She was grief stricken."
Host Joy Behar discussed Trump's comments where he claimed he has proof against her.
"What do you think is his proof?"
Rep. Wilson replied flatly, "President Trump is a liar." Audience cheers.
Behar agreed, "We know that, but he says he has proof. Do you think he was taping the conversation? Cause that would be the proof, right? Or, if he has as many witnesses as you have."
Rep. Wilson replied, "Well if he was taping the conversation, bring it on!"
This is very personal for Rep. Wilson because she said she had mentored Sgt. La David Johnson from when he was a child.
The audience was with her cheering and applauding her challenge to Trump.
Trump always says he has proof during a controversy, but never comes through with it. James Comey comes to mind. His words seem to be enough for his rabid followers, but it won't suffice this time since we are talking about troops that died for this country and their families suffering.
Trump told the press earlier that if the Congresswoman made the same statements about the call, he would reveal his proof.
It's in your court now, Donald.
Update:The White House is now saying Trump may have misspoke or been misunderstood.
