Rep. Louis Gohmert got so wound up into so many James Comey conspiracy theories which morphed into a case against former Senator Ted Stevens, it made Varney get so lost, he ended the segment.
"I'm totally lost. My head is totally spinning. I can't follow all of this," Varney said.
Rep. Gohmert is a consistent fixture on Varney & Co., but I've never seen the Fox Business Network host so frustrated with the wacky Texas congressman before.
The NY Post's Page Six reported in a short article that Gohmert pleaded with Trump privately to "appoint a special counsel to “investigate the collusion between [Special Counsel Robert] Mueller, [former FBI director James] Comey and the Clintons.”
Because it's never Trump's fault, right?
Varney started off by asking, "You told the president, hey, get out there and fire Mueller, is that what you said?
Gohmert replied, " No, actually I didn't tell him to fire Mueller."
And then Rep. Gohmert launched into an uninterrupted over two minute rant of conjecture and conspiracies about Comey and Mueller's relationship that had Varney shaking his head in disbelief.
Louie blamed Comey, without any proof, of being a serial leaker, which some of them maybe crimes and helping Bob Mueller so that Trump couldn't fire him.
Gohmert believes Comey and Mueller are so tight as friends, Mueller shouldn't be allowed to be part of any investigation that Comey had a hand in.
Louie said, "So the president needs to appoint another special counsel just to be investigating Comey's leak."
Varney did manage to breathlessly say "Okay."
But Gohmert didn't stop there in his attempts to smear Bob Mueller.
"And by the way, for those who think Mueller is so clean and all, go back and look at the Ted Stevens, case, the biggest case under Mueller..."
(Here's some info on the case that Gohmert was talking about. What I've read is that it was the prosecutors that didn't turn over evidence, not the FBI.)
Gohmert, "Hid evidence, manufactured evidence,..."
Varney, "Ahh, Louie."
Gohmert was on a roll, "Not only was Stevens not guilty, there was some reasonable doubt (Varney: You've lost me) that the FBI hid evidence to completely -- "
A flabbergasted Varney said, "I'm totally lost. My head is totally spinning. I can't follow all of this."
Varney continued, "You know, I really we wanted to ask you about the flag, "Don't tread On Me, ' and I haven't got time. It's gone. I don't have the time. Come back again and explain it."
Gohmert is another one of Trump's crack pots that constantly whispers in his ear.
