Protests Erupt In St. Louis Following Yet Another Police Officer Acquittal
September 17, 2017

Another day, another police involved shooting of an unarmed black man, Anthony Lamar Smith, by a white officer, Jason Stockley. This time it was St. Louis and the officer, Jason Stockley, was found not guilty after a bench trial during which the Judge had to consider why the gun found in the victims car only had Stockley's DNA on it. Oh, this was after a video showed Stockley rummaging through a duffel bag before approaching the car. You know, before the gun "appeared" in the car.

St. Louis has erupted in protests in response to the verdict. Marches in the area involved protesters chanting "black lives matter" and "it is our duty to fight for our freedom."

The National Guard was put on standby prior to the reading of the verdict with troops being sent to "critical infrastructure" such as fire stations, police stations and the courthouse. Officers came in full riot gear, as they typically do, appearing as if fully militarized and ready to violently quell any protests by unarmed citizens.

One of the most despicable clips, so far, was of the riot gear tricked out police brutally attacking an elderly woman:

Police report that there was some violence, with a handful of officers injured. U2 also chose to cancel their concert based on a lack of security and safety following the protests.

Maybe the problem isn't the protestors. Maybe the problem is that law enforcement are systematically hunting and murdering unarmed black men and then getting away with it. Maybe the problem is law enforcement training on the usage of lethal force. Maybe the problem is the judicial systems blanket belief that law enforcement are always right and that victims or police brutality, many of which are dead and therefore cannot testify, are wrong. Maybe the problem is that the public is reacting to what they see is an abuse of unregulated power by rogue police officers. Maybe the problem isn't the protestors.
