Fox News Sunday's Chris Wallace tried to nail down Gen.H. R. Master's warmongering statements about North Korea, after he commented that the U.S. was "out of road" with Kim Jong-Un, but the National Security Adviser said their "conclusions" were too hush-hush to discuss.
As usual, President Trump refuses to share any information with the American people when it comes to national security, but he's not short on warmongering and bluster, which has made things worse in the region.
On CNN's State of the Union, UN ambassador Nikki Haley told Dana Bash that if they deem diplomatic efforts have failed, "Gen. Mattis will take care of it."
This morning, Chris Wallace tried to get more information out to the public, but McMaster was tight lipped. The FNS host played a video clip to try to get him to commit to something:
"We've been kicking the can down the road and we’re out of road. And so, for those who have said, and have been commenting about the lack of a military option, there is a military option."
Wallace asked, "General, what does that mean, out of road? The fact is you want to get sanctions more time. You’re not about to go to war."
McMaster replied, "It really depends on how we see this threat continue to manifest itself and our judgment about how much time we have."
He continued, "We’re out of road because in the past, the approach taken to the problem of North Korea and the Kim regime over decades has been to enter into long, drawn out negotiations that then deliver an unsatisfactory agreement, an agreement that then the North Korean regime breaks -- we really have to move with a great deal of urgency on sanctions, on diplomacy, and on preparing, if necessary, a military option."
Wallace asked, "So, how do you draw that line? How do you decide we've reached the point that we have to move to a military option now? How long do you get sanctions?
McMaster, "Well, the president has asked all of us to work on this. So, we can't really talk about specific timelines or what conclusions we are coming to."
McMaster said they are working militarily, economically and with our allies to be as effective as possible, but, "And what we recognize is not really much time."
Why isn't there much time? Kim has ramped up their tests and missile launches ever since Trump started bloviating all over the Oval Office. Just this morning, he tested out a new nickname for Kim, calling him "Rocket Man" in a tweet.
Trump has been trying to use Nixon's "Madman Theory" since he took office and while his behavior domestically has been unhinged, on matters around the world, they seem to be laughing at him.
I call it the Madman Theory, Bob. I want the North Vietnamese to believe I've reached the point where I might do anything to stop the war. We'll just slip the word to them that, "for God's sake, you know Nixon is obsessed about communism. We can't restrain him when he's angry—and he has his hand on the nuclear button" and Ho Chi Minh himself will be in Paris in two days begging for peace.[1]
