During a debate tonight in Springfield, Illinois tonight, Senator Mark Kirk launched a shameful racist attack on Rep. Tammy Duckworth.
While discussing national security, Duckworth said, "My family has served this nation in uniform going back to the Revolution. I’m a daughter of the American Revolution. I’ve bled for this nation. But I still want to be there in the Senate when the drums of war sound, because people are quick to sound the drums of war and I want to be there to say this is what it costs and this is what you’re asking us to do.”
Kirk tossed his one-line smartass comeback at her, saying, “I forgot that your parents came all the way from Thailand to serve George Washington."
In fact, Tammy Duckworth is a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, but that couldn't occur to Mark Kirk, simply because she's not white.
Deplorable.
Post-debate, Duckworth responded:
Note: The original video embedded was removed from YouTube, so I have removed it from the post. If I find it I will post it.
Update: I added video from a local news report above, and the longer video is here.
Good lord: video of Kirk's racist comment to Tammy Duckworth even worst than the transcript. pic.twitter.com/ETLc6X11TK
