During this bizarre, stressful Presidential campaign, many people want a distraction, perhaps to go to a game and forget about the madness for a few hours. But nothing rains on a parade like a couple of haters who turn a sporting event into something terribly unpleasant and unsettling.
The Wisconsin Badgers hosted the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday (WI won 23-17), but it wasn't the game that was unique, sadly. More coverage went to the stands, where repulsively offensive Halloween costumes earned those Trump supporters the notorious attention they crave.
They knew they'd be noticed in a jam-packed stadium, where they showed their tasteless sense of 'humor.'
In the stands at Camp Randall Stadium, one fan dressed in a Donald Trump mask, and that fanâs companion dressed in two masks: one for Hillary Clinton, one for President Obama.
The fan in the Trump mask appears to have depicted himself lynching his partner in the Obama and Clinton masks.
What is easy to discern about this act is that it is racist. It depicts Americaâs first black president being lynched, along with Donald Trumpâs presidential campaign opponent. It is jarring and upsetting.
Some of the people whoâve seen the costume are angry that Wisconsin let it be worn into the stadium. University police tweeted that stadium staff asked the people involved to get rid of the noose, which they did. Other than that, university police said they were treating it as free speech. (Perhaps Westboro isn't offensive enough for these people?)
Hereâs a statement from the school:
During the first half of this eveningâs Wisconsin football game against Nebraska, UW officials were made aware that an individual in the seating bowl had donned a highly insensitive and offensive costume. UW Athleticsâ guest services staff were dispatched to the individualâs seating area where they asked him to remove the offensive components of the costume. He complied.UW Athleticsâ policy regarding admission into the stadium with a costume stipulates that no one may be wearing a mask upon entering the facility. Once inside, it is permissible to wear a mask. The costume, while repugnant AND COUNTER TO THE VALUES OF THE UNIVERSITY AND ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT, was an exercise of the individualâs right to free speech. The university also exercised its rights by asking the individual to remove the offensive parts of the costume.
UW-Madison is dedicated to promoting a campus environment where all people feel valued, safe and able to thrive. To that end, the university continues to encourage all of our community members to engage in discussion over vital issues in ways that promote greater understanding and respect for all persons.
The mendacious surrogates of the Trump campaign act as if it's shocking that they are responsible for this openly offensive climate. Out of the woodwork crawl more and more emboldened Trump supporters. Drumpf's Campaign manager, the female Crazy Eddie of rapid-fire lying,Kellyanne Conway was shocked by Jake Tapper's accurate assertion that Trump has yet to denounce and shun his anti-Semitic and racist supporters. The truth is off-putting to Republicans habitual liars, naturally.
What's more off-putting and disgusting is the brash display of the incurable hate that approximately one-third of Americans seem to harbor, in varying degrees. Many of these self-proclaimed Jeebus-loving 'patriots' cannot accept the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 and that dreadful 19th Amendment which gave them-thar women-folk the right to vote. Jim Crow is alive and well and it wouldn't surprise anyone if they think that the term suffrage is what women should experience during childbirth.
At least these Alt-right, Trump supporting, Teabagging members of the electorate will never garner the numbers needed to take the White House....right? Get out and vote, if you haven't already, and let's stop this horror show, ASAP!
