Donald Trump veered off-script today in Flint, Michigan, detouring into criticisms of Hillary Clinton during a speech in an African-American church. His trip to Flint was already greeted with skepticism, since he has been nowhere to be seen since their water poisoning crisis came to light.

Speaking to the congregation, Trump began to criticize Hillary Clinton for everything from NAFTA to foreign policy, at which point pastor Faith Green Timmons came up to the podium and interrupted him, saying "I invited you here to thank us, not give a political speech."

As the congregation applauded, Trump said, "Oh, okay. That's good. And I'm going to go back to it. Okay."

Of course, he managed to get his nastiest criticisms out there anyway, but I doubt this audience has much in the way of admiration for him.

Just before he delivered this speech, he visited the water plant that poisoned Flint residents.

The Detroit Free Press wondered just where the hell he was before now.

"I'm here to call on Donald Trump to stop using the Flint water crisis as a prop for his campaign. Not once since the beginning of his campaign has Trump addressed the crisis, despite ample opportunity," said Desiree Duell, a Flint mother and activist with the group Flint Rising. "We have been denied clean, safe water for more than two years and we want Donald Trump to know that we need a real solution to this crisis, not empty rhetoric or more of the same 'run government like a business' mentality that led to this crisis in the first place."

I'm sure he'll just congratulate those wonderful executives again. Good for that pastor for making him stay focused.
