Montel Williams absolutely ripped into Donald Trump after the NBC Commander-in-Chief forum Wednesday night, pronouncing it a night where "one candidate came prepared and the other one didn't."
He went on to excoriate Trump (and Matt Lauer too) for suggesting that our military should commit war crimes, such as "taking the oil" from Iraq as repayment for invading their country.
"When you steal another country's resources, it is part of the Geneva code," Williams said. "That is a war crime, it's against a law that we have signed onto."
He continued, "To denigrate the current crop of generals and leadership in our military the way Donald Trump did tonight? I was so appalled."
He is referring there to Trump's claim that "our generals are reduced to rubble."
Finally, he ripped into both candidates, the format and the moderator for not really addressing the issues important to veterans; namely, the VA.
"To say we're going to get rid of it or privatize [the VA]? That's the most insane and ridiculous comment I think that anybody could make," Williams said.
Eugene Robinson agreed, and added his own assessment.
"We grade Donald Trump on a curve. If he doesn't drool, and if he doesn't rave and flap his arms, then we say, oh, he seems presidential."
Good job with the diagnosis, gentlemen. Now fix the problem. It is entirely one of the media's own making.
