Sheriff David Clarke, did his part to help Fox News pretend that Donald Trump had done the black community a solid when he exploited an African American’s woman death to boast about his own (sure to come) popularity with blacks.
As I previously posted:
[NBA star Dwyane] Wade’s cousin, Nykea Aldridge, was shot and killed by crossfire in Chicago as she pushed a baby stroller Friday. Trump used the occasion to brag about his HUGE mojo with “the blacks” with a tweet: “Dwyane Wade’s cousin was just shot and killed walking her baby in Chicago. Just what I have been saying. African-Americans will VOTE TRUMP!”
As Media Matters reported, “Media figures from across the political spectrum condemned Trump’s tweet.” But Fox News found excuses to cheerlead. Earlier, I posted about Fox’s Martha MacCallum and Katie Pavlich applauding Trump’s focus on black-on-black crime. Fox & Friends came up with similar praise.
On America’s Newsroom, regular guest Sheriff David Clarke joined the club:
CLARKE: Good for Donald Trump. The only reason he’s taking heat for this from the left and from the Democrats and from Mrs. Bill Clinton is because he’s putting the focus and the spotlight where it should be: these hellholes called the American ghetto here in the United States.
We’ve heard nothing from Barack Obama with all this carnage taking place, not just in Chicago but all across the American ghetto. We’ve heard nothing in Chicago from Rahm Emanuel, nothing from the governor, Rauner, we’ve heard nothing from Clinton on this carnage. 460 people have been murdered, most of those black people by other black people, just like Ms. Aldredge, God rest her soul and nobody wants to talk about it.
Wrong. Democrat President Barack Obama has repeatedly addressed violence in black communities. Chicago’s Democratic Mayor Rahm Emanuel put together a youth employment initiative. Democrat Hillary Clinton has called for stricter gun control measures as a solution. Illinois’ Republican governor, Bruce Rauner, just signed a new gun control measure for the state, specifically aimed at reducing gun violence in Chicago.
But host Gregg Jarrett did not challenge Clarke.
“So the more that Donald Trump continues to focus on this, we’ll finally get to where we need to be and it’s to get rid of these American ghettoes and improve lives for black people,” Clarke continued.
Jarrett did ask why, if Trump is so great for African Americans, he’s doing so poorly in the polls with them.
CLARKE: This is a recent strategic move on the part of Donald Trump. I think it’s brilliant, though, because the Democrats and Mrs. Bill Clinton never saw this coming. They’ve now had to spend money and resources on putting out ads to fight off this attempt by Donald Trump to plead for the American, of the black American vote. So if they’re reacting to it, that’s where you want them to be. They know that they have a problem if people start to open their eyes, black people. It’s not going to happen overnight.
Yeah, I’m sure that will start happening any minute now.
