I've been writing for months now about how awful Donald Trump's speeches are. They are so hard to listen to. His delivery is terrible. Not only at his rallies -- when he's reading from the teleprompter, he slows his delivery down so much and screeches every single word in an apparent effort to sound more "authoritative."
He doesn't.
Chris Wallace is the only media host I can remember who similarly criticizes Trump's delivery.
After Trump gave a long acceptance speech at the RNC, Wallace said, "we can't ignore the presentation. He shouted the speech. For some reason he said each word so slowly that it kind of became an endurance test and in that sense I think it was a bit of a missed opportunity."
On MSNBC's Morning Joe, co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski opened the 7 am EST hour by commenting on Donald Trump's stump speech in North Carolina over the weekend.
They played a clip of Trump predicting the end of America as we know it and Joe said, "That was sort of a Morning in America speech. The mines will be closed, locusts will descend from heaven."
Mika then said, "Let me just say, he belts it out like, honestly, like he's had a lot to drink. he does."
Mike Barnicle said that Trump doesn't drink and she said, "I know, but his delivery...'
Nicole Wallace jumped in and said, "He shrieks more than she [Hillary Clinton] does."
The beltway media has often complained about the way Hillary Clinton delivers her stump speeches, and many conservative pundits attack her, not for what she said, but the tone of her voice. They push the old "shrieking harpy" meme for Hillary, but for some reason the media is mum when Trump is shrill.
To me, most times he sounds like he's injected a six pack of Red Bull before he walks on stage.
Maybe they just don't listen to his speeches because they hate hearing his "tone" as much as I do. But then they should at least report that he's the screaming, unhinged ol' battle axe in this campaign.
Hard to believe it was only yesterday that Trump's new campaign manager Kellyanne Conway told ABC's George Stephanopolous that Trump "doesn't hurl personal insults". He spent the morning today (probably responding to this segment) tweeting all over Morning Joe with the worst insults ever.
Who let Donald Trump have his phone back, anyway?
