Chris Shays represented Connecticut's fourth district for over twenty years, before finally succumbing to its recent Democratic slant. Shays was usually described as a moderate, due to some more socially liberal positions that the Republican Party allows for anymore, but mostly he was, by necessity, just a Bush enabler with a keen sense of self-preservation. As such, his instincts that the GOP under Donald Trump are headed in the wrong direction is worth listening to.

Former U.S. Rep. Chris Shays, the last Republican to represent Connecticut in Congress, said Wednesday he'll be voting for Hillary Clinton in November.
“Donald Trump represents practically everything I was taught not to be, and taught our daughter not to be," Shays said of the Republican presidential nominee, in remarks released by Clinton's campaign. "Hillary Clinton, the Democratic candidate for president, will be getting my vote, not reluctantly, but with a strong conviction she will be a good president."
A top surrogate for Ohio Gov. John Kasich's bid for the Republican nomination, Shays, who represented the 4th District in Fairfield County from 1987-2009, appeared with him at several events in Connecticut. The retired congressman has previously said that he wouldn't vote for Trump, but Wednesday's revelation was the first time he said publicly he'd vote for Clinton.
Shays was part of a list of Republicans and independents backing her bid that the Clinton campaign rolled out on Wednesday. Shays appeared on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" to talk about his support of Clinton.
