When I heard it was, at long last, the safe boring choice, the song above popped into my head and on to my Twitter.

Most of us on the progressive side wanted someone more progressive than Tim Kaine.

But now she has made her choice and it's Kaine after all. People on Twitter are pointing out his strong ties to the African American community, his "walking the talk" on Hispanic / Latino issues, and his zero percent rating by the NRA in a gun-toting state.

Donald Trump is taking on Kaine, trying to put a wedge between Hillary and progressives so they'll vote....for him? While at the same time Paul Manafort calls the team "liberal" and equates that with "corrupt"?

Really, Paul?

Republican strategist Ana Navarro, a strong Trump critic, draws a distinction between the parties:

It's clear that many of us in the progressive wing would have preferred a more liberal running mate. That said, Rowan Kaiser makes a good point...
