Unsatisifed with the decisions by both the FBI and the DOJ to not charge Hillary Clinton with treason punishable by death, various members of the House GOP have written a strongly worded tantrum on Congressional letterhead today. Yes, they are now asking for a do-over because god damn it, clearly punishing someone for keeping an email server at home (which the previous Secretary of State, a Republican did) is significantly more important than, say, gun reform, Zika funding, etc. But you know, emails.
The letter is asking for the DOJ to investigate Hillary Clinton for lying to Congress to determine whether she committed perjury. God help us all. This is never going to end. Even when she is elected, they are going to try to come after her.
The letter, signed by Reps. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), chairman of the House Oversight Committee, and Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, says:
"We write to request an investigation to determine whether former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton committed perjury and made false statements during her testimony under oath before congressional committees. "
This latest move comes just 5 days after FBI Director James Comey, a Republican, sat through an all day public flogging as members of his own party tried to insinuate through directly saying that he had somehow not done his job correctly.
When asked about why the FBI investigation didn't cover perjury, Comey said it wasn't in the scope of their investigation. Therefore, this gave the bloodthirsty GOP an opening to revive a dead horse. The letter went on to address this by saying:
"The evidence collected by the FBI during its investigation of Secretary Clinton's use of a personal email system appears to directly contradict several aspects of her sworn testimony,. In light of these contradictions, the Department should investigate and determine whether to prosecute Secretary Clinton for violating statutes that prohibit perjury and false statements to Congress, or any other relevant statutes."
So when this, inevitably, comes back a non-starter, what will their next whiny complaint be? That the DOJ also failed to do their job? That she didn't use the right signature block, thereby violating State Department protocol? That her staff didn't use "sincerely" and instead used "thank you" thereby disrespecting the office?
