Hillary Clinton joined Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday and gave them the first interview post her historic presidential nomination.
I've written before that Chris Wallace has done a very good job questioning his guests and I thought he was pretty fair interviewing Hillary this morning.
That was until he used a book called "Clinton Cash," which was written by a former consultant to Sarah Palin, Bobby Jindal and George Bush. All of its harshest claims been thoroughly debunked.
Author Peter Schweizer purports that Bill and Hillary sold favors using her position as Secretary of State so that they both and the Clinton Foundation could get rich.
Donald Trump used it in a speech and many journalists pounced on it saying he leaned on a book that has been basically discredited.
Wallace asked, "Let's talk about the Clinton Foundation and allegations of pay-to-play, the argument, the allegation that foreign companies and foreign countries either donated big money to the foundation, or paid your husband for big money for speeches in order to influence your work as secretary of state. In the first 12 years after he left the White House, President Clinton made 13 speeches for which he got $500,000 or more. Eleven of those 13 were while you were secretary of state, and they were all paid for by foreign interests. Are we to believe that's just a coincidence?"
That was a mouth full, innit?
Just because Donald Trump uses conspiracy theories and claims that can't be proved as fact doesn't mean Chris Wallace or any other journalist should then use them as legitimate question in interviews
Hillary Clinton responded by saying, "Well, there's no truth to any of these allegations."
Bill Clinton is a very popular former president, who is an engaging speaker so why is there a conspiracy revolving around his speaking engagements?
Wallace pressed saying, "Well, I mean, it is true that they gave -- that they did make these speeches. They are all were by foreign interests, and he was getting much bigger speaking fees."
Yea, so what?
Hillary defended her husband's speeches and said, "And there is absolutely no connection between anything that I did as secretary of state and the Clinton Foundation. So, people can say that, but I’m proud of our philanthropic work, our personal/family philanthropic work, the work of the Clinton Foundation."
And she closed with this: "I'd like to see Donald Trump's tax returns to find out how much philanthropy he's ever done."
So would we all, Madam Secretary, so would we all.
