Turns out Gretchen Carlson's last day on Fox (video only shows last day on Fox and Friends from a few years ago) brought with it a lawsuit against Roger Ailes for sexual harassment. He fired her because she wouldn't sleep with him? Eww.
This story is unfolding and may end with nothing more than a settlement check, but wow.
CNN's Tom Kludt on Twitter, via Mediaite:
“One of the media industry’s most powerful figures fired a longtime on-air personality because she refused to sleep with him and reported disparaging treatment in the newsroom.
Such are the key allegations in a sexual harassment and retaliation lawsuit filed today by Fox News host Gretchen Carlson against the network’s chairman and CEO Roger Ailes.”:
The "disparaging treatment" will be the subject of the lawsuit, but if it were me I'd also take issue with calling whatever Fox News offices are, a "newsroom."
We know that Roger Ailes is a pig when it comes to women.Media Matters and Vice have documented the long and ugly history of his pimping (yes, I said it) of bare legs and low necklines, and blondes with glass desks. A Google video search of "Gretchen Carlson upskirts" only brings up "About 4,680 results (0.41 seconds)".
And on topic about Carlson, the Ailes biography "The Loudest Voice in the Room" notes
When Gretchen Carlson's name came up, Ailes pointed out she was once Miss America, then added, "It must not have been a good year."
What a sweetheart.
We're sure Gretchen's stand in favor of banning assault weapons post-Orlando had nothing to do with her firing. Sure.
Updates will follow as news unfolds....
