More About That Mexican Flag In Scotland Near Trump's New Golf Course
June 22, 2016

We showed this picture in last night's open thread, but now we learn that it's more than one flag, and it's a protest not just against Trump's policies toward Mexico, but a very specific complaint from the Scots. By the way, don't cross a Scot.

Donald Trump has a long and complicated history with his family's homeland, Scotland. A few years ago he razed a huge plot of natural land to build his golf course "Trump International Golf Links", displacing longtime residents by using Scotland's version of eminent domain. These residents did not go down without a fight, as shown in the excellent documentary called "You've Been Trumped."

As a form of silent protest, residents of Menie Estate, north of Aberdeen, have erected numerous Mexican Flags as a sign of unity Buzzfeed reports..

David Milne, a long time resident of the Aberdeen area, says:

“The point of the flag is to show solidarity with the Mexicans and every other group that Trump has decried, derided, insulted, and tried to marginalise”

The group featured in the "You've Been Trumped" movie are part of a group called "Tripping Up Trump" which has helped them resist and thus far, prevent, compulsory purchase (similar to eminent domain) orders to take their land.

Trump has Scottish ancestry from his mother's side, but it's clear his native kindred are too embarrassed to welcome him home. Sad!

I expect this is getting under Trump's very thin skin. We stand with you, Aberdeen. Fly those flags high!
