Influenced by the great Creature from the Black Lagoon, this movie had one of the scariest monster suits in it from the famed 1950's black and white era. As a kid all I wanted to see was the monster.
I was looking for a better print, but this one is watchable.
The plot concerns a superstitious lighthouse keeper named Sturges (John Harmon), who leaves food for the beast--which is said to live in a nearby cave--as an appeasement. Although most of the other inhabitants of the area think he's crazy, Sturges worries that the monster might go after his beautiful teenage daughter.
The monster always wants the girl, right?
Berwick and producer Jack Kevan were former Universal-International employees who formed a production company, VanWick, for which THE MONSTER OF PIEDRAS BLANCAS was its only film. Kevan’s U-I job was in the makeup department, where he helped create the Gill Man, among other famous movie monsters. His Monster of Piedras Blancas is impressively ugly and mean-looking and probably scared a lot of kids.

The Monster of Piedras Blancas was showing during the drive-in movie scene of the 2016 live broadcast of Grease on Fox.
This is a pretty bad monster movie, perfect for a Chiller Saturday night.
