Paul Manafort is one bizarre person, which makes sense since he's the top dawg in the Trump campaign these days.
Howard Fineman reported on some of Manafort's recent comments on Trump's campaign at a recent breakfast, and I've got to say, it's just downright weird. Although if you're a guy who is competing to win the Presidency so you can turn the country into a dictatorship, I suppose Manafort is just the kind of guy you might want.
There's the usual bluster about how Trump is going to win all the states, about how he's not really a racist, about how Latinos love him, and how he's going to moderate his tone and move to the center.
The one remark that stood out for me, though, was this one, about his VP pick.
“He needs an experienced person to do the part of the job he doesn’t want to do. He seems himself more as the chairman of the board, than even the CEO, let alone the COO.”
“There is a long list of who that person could be,” Manafort added, “and every one of them has major problems.”
The campaign probably won’t choose a woman or a member of a minority group, he said. “In fact, that would be viewed as pandering, I think.”
What parts of the job doesn't Trump want to do? The parts that involve work? Is he expecting to slap his name on the White House and call it a day?
It's just so weird that this guy is running as the Republican candidate.
