Fox News faux liberal, Eboni Williams, helped whitewash Donald Trump’s antagonism toward “the blacks” on The O’Reilly Factor last night.
Williams was part of a ridiculous discussion analyzing whether “uber progressive” Van Jones meant it when he said on Facebook that Trump “probably will win the presidency,” mainly because some African Americans will vote for him.
Bill O’Reilly asked, in all seriousness, “The question: does he really believe Trump can win or is this a motivating statement for Democrats?”
As if O’Reilly or anyone else on Fox ever cares what Jones thinks about anything, except when they want to smear him.
And if O’Reilly really wanted to know what Jones thought, why didn’t he try to interview him? Or at least ask someone in a position to know? Instead, O’Reilly called on two Fox News contributors who obviously had no idea about Jones’ intent.
Conservative Monica Crowley opined, “If Van Jones doesn’t believe this, he should. But I think he probably does and I think they’re not mutually exclusive.”
Trump-admiring, Clinton-hating Williams was the other guest. She agreed “100%” with Crowley that Trump has “huge crossover appeal, including to black voters.” Well, except for the polls that show otherwise. Even Van Jones was only suggesting 30% of African Americans “are open to” Trump. In February, six polls found his support among African Americans ranging from 4-12%.
But “No Spin Zone” O’Reilly did not correct Williams.
Williams went on to say that Trump has set up an “us vs. them paradigm” in the primary that has worked very well for him. “The question becomes, where do black voters fall in this,” she said. “Are they a part of the ‘us’ that he’s trying to make great again or are they a part of the ‘them.’”
Williams all but answered her own question. Before long, she also said she thought that as many as 80% of blacks have disqualified Trump “because they feel like the anti-Muslim thing, the anti-immigrant things are inclusive of them.”
“Why would they think that?” O’Reilly asked, with seemingly genuine puzzlement in his voice.
“Because some of them just feel like - again, where they fall in the us vs. them,” Williams replied.
“I never heard Trump say anything bad about black people ever, O’Reilly said.
“I haven’t either,” Williams agreed.
“Privately or publicly,” O’Reilly said.
Saying you've never heard Trump say anything racist seems to be a regular Fox routine these days. But I’d expect Williams, an African American who claims to “fall left on most issues,” to have a bit more sensitivity and awareness that you don’t have to go on an n-word-laden rant to be a blatant racist.
So if Williams doesn’t think that Trump’s refusal to disavow David Duke and the KKK, his birtherism, his reference to African Americans as “the blacks” and his condoning the beating of a Black Lives Matter protester isn’t racist, then maybe she ought to consider what Trump has said about Mexicans, Muslims, Asians, the disabled and women and ask herself if there might be a pattern there.
