Bill Kristol, a leader of trying to draft a third party candidate to undo Trump's Republican nomination, was greeted by an unagreeable CNN host.
While discussing his screwy plans to have someone parachute in - get on the general-election ballots to steal enough electoral votes and deprive both party's nomination process, CNN's Alisyn Camerota threw some hot water on his plans.
Alysin asked Kristol, how "his effort was going" to find a candidate, Kristol said, "Fine, it's a tough thing to do"
He continued, "We'll know in a couple of weeks whether someone serious steps up - mechanical, logistical, legal obstacles are manageable, the money will be there.."
Camerota interrupted, "Are they?" She explained that the deadline in Texas to get on the ballot had passed and other state's deadlines were upon us.
Kristol said "legal challenges" and lawsuits would dispatch that problem. After he named a few people that already have declined his offer, Alysin continued to push back against the idea of a successful independent candidate.
The names being bandied about included Tom Coburn, and when Alysin said he had health concerns, Kristol got mad and lost it.
"If you’re just going to say it’s tough to do and no one stepped forward. Yes, yes, no one stepped forward, yes. Do I think someone has stepped forward? yes. Have I been in touch with Sasse and Coburn and Mitt Romney? Yes. Do these people seriously think the country deserves better? Yes.
If you guys want to say, 'oh, well I'm sorry, people so far have said no, can’t happen, it's great', you guys would love a Trump/Clinton race.
Fantastic news every day. Two really unattractive candidates fighting stupidly about their personal lives, fighting with the “New York Times.” I’d like to have someone to run who could really do better for the country.
Camerota: My job is to be a reality check...not a cheerleader for, you know, your effort.
No, I...
...my job is not to be a cheerleader for, you know, your effort. I’m interested in your effort and certainly interested in hearing who you’re talking to. But the reality check, is it's...
Kristol: What is the reality, Alisyn?
Camerota: The reality check is in public people have said, thanks, but no thanks....
It's fine if Tommy Christopher didn't appreciate Alysin's "reality" check, nonsense, but I think it's a good thing whenever a host decides to push back against a crazy idea coming from one of their guests.
