The mainstream media can't help it. What if Bernie supporters decide to vote for Trump in the general election?
It's not necessary for me to make a long academic argument. I live in a house with liberal blogging and podcasting flowing through it, and my kids are YOOOGE Bernie Sanders supporters. My oldest is 17 and went to the trouble of registering early because 17 year olds can vote in Illinois in the primary if they will be 18 at the general election.
His two younger sisters, 12 and 13, wore Bernie socks to school today. They drink beverages from Bernie mugs and water bottles. He's the cool candidate.
All of my kids roll their eyes at suggestions that Bernie Sanders supporters might support Trump in the general election. They are aware of his racism, his misogyny, and his stupidity when it comes to basic issues like the economy. Furthermore, in their Instagram world, Donald Trump is NOT cool. They see him as simply an old white Republican who is the candidate of old white Republicans. They want nothing to do with him, and they insist that I vote against him in November, no matter who the Democratic nominee is.
The mainstream media has nothing better to do right now than spin fan-fic about how this or that might happen to make the 2016 general election an exciting horserace. Forget it. And yes, I hope their ratings crash and burn because ironically, no one under the age of a Trump voter has any time for the media's fake teen-like drama over who likes whom.
This isn't a plea for unity. We still have several weeks of the primary season ahead of us, and that's fine with me. I'm just tired of my own kids getting slandered by the press, that they're too stupid to know that Trump is dangerous and they'll just wake up Republican if they don't get their way in the primaries. That false narrative only serves those who need the election to be close, in order to get ratings, in November.
