'Moral Monday' Leader Faces Racist Comments On Plane; And HE Gets Kicked Off?

Some days you can't even imagine what's going on in people's heads. The Charlotte Observer reports that the Rev. William Barber, who suffers from an arthritic disability, purchased two seats on a flight from Washington to Raleigh/Durham.

A person behind him complained loudly about Barber's seating arrangement. "Barber said the other passenger said 'he had problems with ‘those people’ and he spoke harshly about my need for ‘two seats,’ among other subjects.'" He was apparently loud enough that flight attendants asked him to "bring it down a little bit."

The flight was scheduled to take off at 10 pm; anyone want to lay bets that in addition to racist douchebaggery, alcohol was involved? But I digress. The flight attendents certainly weren't drunk, which begs the question who was on drugs when those in charge of the flight decided that the Reverend Barber should be the one removed from the flight?

Barber said that an airline official told him he had to leave the plane. Barber said that police officers and airline employees treated him graciously, and some were openly troubled by the decision to remove him from the plane.

“Yes, I am not at all happy about what I believe were the real reasons I was the one asked to leave,” Barber said. “My training and experiences with non-violent civil disobedience, and my deep faith, however, made my decision to peacefully comply with the order to get off the plane an easy one.

“I turned the matter over to my legal counselors, one here and one in Washington DC.”

But wait, there's more. Who should decide they needed to open their piehole and inject themselves into this injustice but the Vice-Chairman of the North Carolina GOP, Michele Nix?

“I guess Rev. Barber thinks it's ‘moral’ to inconvenience other passengers wanting to get home to see their families, because he once again thinks his ‘right’ to say and do whatever he wants is more important than other law abiding citizens who conduct themselves under society’s rules of civil behavior,”

So some allegedly drunk white douchebag gets loud about a disabled African American clergyman who bought two seats to accommodate his disability, but the drunk guy gets to fly home that night, and you Ms. Nix, decide to lecture about "society's rules of civil behavior"?

Your political party is in the moral toilet, Michele. And you just put on display everything that is wrong about Republicans. Bless your heart.

Update:

Here is the other passenger's account. Apparently the real fools are the American Airlines folks who decided to take him off the plane. - Karoli
