It's Casual Friday on the set of Morning Joe, and apparently Mark Halperin is snorting his ample stash of "Great News for John McCain" hallucinogen again.
That, and the only Californians he has ever actually talked to are White, Orange County Republicans.
Joe Scarborough actually cuts him off. "“He’s never going to win California anyway."
Halperin sniffs in some nasal residue: “Can he, not win it, but can he make Clinton play defense there?”
Joe has had enough: “Can I answer that question on April 28? No, no, he cannot make Hillary Clinton play defense in California.”
On topic, Brian Beutler reminds us that Halperin, in 2014, said exactly the same thing about...not kidding...Jeb Bush.
Finally, the most macro significant question for any Republican putting him or herself forward to beat Clinton is this: What states can you win that Romney lost? For Bush, the easy answer includes Florida, Ohio, Colorado, Iowa, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, and Virginia. If he runs a strong campaign, Bush could also compete in California and possibly New Jersey and Michigan.
This is a long-standing drug problem, Halperin. Probably too late for an intervention.

"Hey, you've got to read this really smart piece by Mark Halperin," is something no one has ever said to me.
