Those who make known their religious affiliations are, quite often, the most hypocritical. They behave antithetically to the tenets of their faith by capriciously harming those who need assistance. There are no bigger hypocrites in the U.S. Senate than Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee, who both claim to be devout in their respective faiths.
Both men had, and still have a role in denying Flint Michigan desperately needed federal money. Cruz was one of the Republican Senators who recommended blocking a federal aid bill to the victims of the public health emergency. Ted Cruz, the son of Dominionist pastor, Rafael, isn't completely against federal aid to the states. When Texas suffered historic flooding last year, Cruz had no problem accepting federal aid. Do unto others, right Ted?
Contrary to the bogus claims of Marco Rubio, the problem was not caused by the Federal Government, but by the Snyder Administrations' efforts to cut costs at the expense of the safety of countless people.
But even Tailgunner Ted changed his position and he will no longer be blocking the bi-partisan bill. I guess someone had to take Cruz's role of being THE heartless monster, and Mormon Senator Mike Lee of Utah was happy to oblige.
Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) has a hold on the deal to proceed to votes on the Flint aid alongside a bipartisan energy bill.
Cruz had placed a "soft hold" on the aid package to give him more time to study the details of the proposal. Without naming Cruz or Lee, (snowball wielding) Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), a lead negotiator on the Flint aid package, acknowledged Thursday a hold was preventing it from coming to the floor, but Inhofe said he was hopeful the impasse could be resolved.
Like the majority of Republicans, Lee seems to take the wrong side on every single issue. But he takes it to another level of awful. The Tea Party Senator is for abolishing essentially every regulation when it comes to gun control. He is against the UN and refused to sign an international agreement to help the handicapped.
The Junior Utah Senator was instrumental in the 2013 Government Shutdown. He is against health care for poor people, and is naturally against any sort of amnesty for immigrants. However, he once wanted special provisions for house servants and any sort of undocumented immigrant that could personally help him. Some of those he listed are:
cooks, waiters, butlers, housekeepers, governessess, maids, valets, baby sitters, janitors, laundresses, furnacemen, care-takers, handymen, gardeners, footmen, grooms, and chauffeurs of automobiles for family use” from prohibitions against “unlawful employment” for undocumented immigrants.
Lee is, of course, beholden to the fossil fuel industry, and that is his justification for blocking the bill. It's political grandstanding, a form of retaliation over Democrats stalling on an energy package, proposed by fellow Republican, Lisa Murkowski (AK).
Senator Lee is a devout Mormon, he claims, and is very public about his faith. His father was President of Brigham Young University, for the love of Kolob! At a conference of interdenominational leaders in Washington two years ago, Lee acknowledged the importance of prayer in his own life.
(Prayer) requires no electricity, advanced technology, or advanced education. But prayer doesn’t happen by chance. It requires us to assert ourselves by approaching our Heavenly Father in faith and humility.
I have experienced this heavenly help and strength, not simply through my own prayers, but often through your prayers and the prayers of others who pray for liberty and peace — and for that I am most thankful.
It's noteworthy that he's such an openly religious man and advocate of prayer. Perhaps he believes the only remedy for the victims of negligence and malice aforethought is to pray to his deity. If only prayer could help Flint's poor children?
