Tucker Carlson has interviewed former preacher and Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee countless times on Fox 'News.' Huckabee provides viewers with a familiar face and calming voice who will reassure the faithful that it will all be okay in the Republican circus environment of this election cycle.
The first part of Saturday's interview was regarding the abysmal reaction of the Obama Administration who never seems to handle an international crisis the correct way. Secretary of State Kerry asserted that the losses on the battlefield for ISIS are significant, and this is manifested by desperate acts of terror outside their realm. Tucker and Huck are incredulous that this is remotely accurate, but their evidence is simply their opinion and that of the neocon war machine that has been a disastrous failure for decades.
The conversation drifted towards the outrageous personal attacks between Ted Cruz and Donald Trump. Huckabee recalled the attacks on his own family by the Romney people in 2008, where his own child was called out for some pretty disturbing behavior. Regardless of the subject, Huck believes that candidate's families are off limits and this is going too far. The fighting among Cruz and Trump, which exploits both Heidi and Melania, is simply unacceptable as far as Huckabee is concerned.
HUCKABEE: Once you start getting the families and the wives into the fray, you've taken the whole thing off the rails...The single most disgusting thing you ever deal with is when your families get unfairly brought into a campaign, they're not on the ballot, there's no reason to attack them, in whatever way. This is simply something that ought to be off limits.
I would suggest that Cruz and Trump have a phone call, kind of like Vito Corleone sitting down with Philip Tattaglia and saying there's got to be a truce, this goes nowhere that helps anybody and it's really, really horrible.
That's what the former preacher recommends, a phone call, like the Dons made in The Godfather. It's a pretty apt comparison, as neither Cruz nor Trump acts in a terribly ethical fashion, so why not equate their campaigns with the criminal behavior of the Mafia Dons in Mario Puzo's epic saga?
Donald Trump is certainly resembling a Mafia-inspired gangster and fascist with his veiled threats of convention riots.
“I think we’ll win before getting to the convention, but I can tell you, if we didn’t and if we’re 20 votes short or if we’re 100 short and we’re at 1,100 and somebody else is at 500 or 400, because we’re way ahead of everybody, I don’t think you can say that we don’t get it automatically,” Trump said on CNN. “I think it would be — I think you’d have riots. I think you’d have riots. I’m representing a tremendous, many, many millions of people.”
It’s framed as a warning, but make no mistake: This is a threat. This is pure movie mafiosi stuff: Nice convention there. Shame if something happened to it.
This is seriously some drama that requires plenty of popcorn.
