The early 90's were some of the most pivotal and creative times for Hip-Hop. Contrasted by the smooth flow of Q-Tip and the gruff and distinct delivery of Phife Dawg, A Tribe Called Quest was one of the groups that blazed a trail in rhyme and groove, taking the music to places it had not gone before.
On their 2nd album, 1991's The Low End Theory, they were one of the first Hip-Hop combo's of note to incorporate jazz into their sound. The even celebrated the sound with the words on "Jazz (We've Got) Buggin' Out'"
After suffering many years from health issues it has been reported that Phife Dawg, born Malik Taylor, has passed away from complications resulting from diabetes. He was 45 years old.
