When Wisconsin lawmakers passed their religious freedom laws, it seems clear they didn't have Muslims on their minds. But they're about to.
After seven Muslim employees were fired and 14 others resigned in protest from Ariens Co, a company which manufactures snowblowers and lawn mowers, CAIR announced it plans to file a religious discrimination complaint under the states RFRA laws, the Wisconsin Journal-Sentinel reports.
According to the report, the employees were fired after protesting enforcement of two 10-minute breaks per work shift with no accommodations for prayer times such as at dawn and sunset, which had been the previous policy at the company before a crackdown by management.
And of course, it's not simply a policy change to crack down on the act of prayer, because this is Wisconsin and these are Muslims.
Sayed contends there are other issues as well, including harassment and unfair treatment based on the employees' religious faith and Somali background.
"Based on information we received ... the claims are not merely limited to a denial of religious accommodations but also extend well beyond that," Sayed said, declining to provide details.
I can just imagine all those "good Christian" lawmakers and their outrage at having their effort to discriminate against people who are not Christians backfire on them, can't you?
