Donald Trump is pulling out all the stops against Ted Cruz after Saturday night's debate. In a press conference today, Trump threatened to file a birther lawsuit against Cruz if he doesn't apologize for his lies about Trump.
I'm no Donald Trump fan, but he's right about Ted Cruz and lying. It seems as though it's all Cruz knows how to do.
"You saw it! 'Donald Trump is going to appoint liberal judges,' [Cruz] says. I named two judges and I was the only one who named judges," Trump said.
Referring to Cruz's lies, Trump said, "But the only way you can fight it is with all the press here... [Cruz] is a liar...He'll just come out and boom, boom, boom. Everything he says is a lie."
Trump isn't going to take those lies sitting down.
He continued, "Now, he'll apologize, but I don't want an apology after the election. I want the apology before."
"If he doesn't, I'm going to bring a lawsuit because in my opinion, based on what I've learned over the last two or three days from top lawyers, he doesn't even have the right to serve as President or even run as President. He was born in Canada," Trump added.
He concluded, "So I will bring that lawsuit if he doesn't apologize."
Now the problem as I see it is this. Cruz' eligibility to run is a question whether or not Cruz apologizes. If Donald Trump actually cares about this as a real issue, he'd be bringing the lawsuit to settle things even if Cruz and he were best buddies, right?
Because how can a Canadian Make America Great Again? So while Trump is absolutely right about Cruz being a liar, using the birther argument as leverage for a mere apology strikes me as somewhat absurd and desperate.
