NH Publisher: Chris Christie Said He'd Never Back Trump
February 27, 2016

Who knew Chris Christie would lie to all parties involved when he was trying to win the presidential nomination? Well, we all knew he would, but that doesn't mean when a candidate directly swears to something, it doesn't mean they won't stand by it. But we know what kind of man Chris is, so when Gov. Christie endorsed Donald Trump Friday, it sent shock waves throughout the Republican establishment. Many are now attacking the New Jersey governor over his betrayal.

“It’s pretty disgusting why he did it because he’s opportunistic,” said Tony Fratto of Hamilton Place Strategies, who worked in the George W. Bush White House. “His days of leadership in the Republican Party are done.”

“It will definitely be a dark cloud over his seriousness as an elected leader," added Roy, one of whose clients is American Future Fund, which just launched a multimillion-dollar ad campaign attacking Trump for allegedly ripping off students who attended Trump University. "He was a serious federal prosecutor, he was a serious governor, he was a serious presidential candidate and now this is an unserious endorsement."

Ryan Williams, a Romney alum now at FP1 Strategies, said that Christie had gone from presumptive Republican front-runner a few years ago to “kissing Donald Trump’s boots and trying to secure something out of an endorsement."

“There are a lot of Christie supporters right now who I’m sure are feeling pretty burned. ...They’re going to have to disavow this move,” said Williams. “This is a new degree of soul-selling for Chris Christie.”

“Chris Christie is only about Chris Christie,” said Fratto, and is just “another person searching for relevance.”

But there is one person who really got screwed the most by Christie and that is the Union Leader's Joe McQuaid. I wrote a lot about McQuaid, when he decided to back Christie. He came out hard for Christie as the New Hampshire primary was closing in and his endorsement carries a lot of weight in the state, even if it didn't help Christie in the end.

By endorsing Trump, Christie has made a fool out of McQuaid and he's not happy about. He just went on record saying Christie lied to his face about ever supporting Trump.

The publisher of New Hampshire’s largest newspaper is accusing Chris Christie of breaking a vow that he would never endorse Donald Trump.

Joe McQuaid said Friday he is "disappointed" in Christie’s newfound support for the GOP presidential front-runner, according to Politico.

McQuaid then recounted how the New Jersey governor had promised he would not give Trump his blessing after ending his own White House run earlier this month.

McQuaid said after Christie ended his campaign and rumors started spreading about a possible Trump endorsement, “I sent a message off to Gov. Christie and he called me back and I told him what I’d heard and he said, ‘No, no, I would never do that.'"

“[Christie] told me to tell the other guy to ‘take his head out of his ass’ for saying he would support Trump,” he added of his mutual acquaintance with Christie.

I was working on contacting McQuaid for a quote to a piece I was writing about how he felt about Christie's traitorous behavior, but he didn't waste any time telling the country how he feels.
