The guest of honor on Versus this week was Wayne Allyn Root, author of the blockbuster bestseller (okay, maybe not) The Conscience of a Libertarian: Empowering the Citizen Revolution with God, Guns, Gold & Tax Cuts. During the interview, Alan Colmes seeks to unlock the mysteries of the alternate universe in which Republicans live.

We are all so blessed that this year because, Root will be delivering the Tea Party rebuttal to the State of the Union later this month. Proudly following in the footsteps of the mis-focused eyes of those whom previously delivered the rebuttal, Root hopes to make a name for himself and get more attention from his idol, Donald Trump.

Root was the most suspicious of the IRS scandal, claiming he was targeted and profiled. Each time Colmes presented Root with real statistics, he would tell him why the facts he has, which were collected the same way as they were in the Bush Administration, are erroneous. He genuinely believes, or pretends to be wholly convinced, that President Obama is dead set on destroying the middle class. Wayne, like all Republicans, is an advocate of projecting his own insidious ideologies on others.

The main premise of the interview, which was never really settled, was how President Obama, who Root claims never attended Columbia, would be so familiar with the specific teachings of some particular professors. Root was asked several times, but his answers were just based on hearsay and common Conservative myths.

COLMES: "You've said recently, for example, you never saw him at Columbia, you both graduated the same year, you think he learned stuff at Columbia that taught him to destroy the country. Could you clarify that please?"

ROOT: I thought I knew everyone at Columbia, who was in the Political Science Department, and almost everyone at Columbia in my class, of '83 and I was pretty outspoken; I was the only Conservative at the whole darn school, and I never met Obama, never heard of Obama never saw Obama, to this day, I've never met a single classmate... *crosstalk

COLMES: And yet, you doubt that he went there?

ROOT: I never said that, I've always said that he handled Columbia the way he handles the Presidency.

COLMES: But wait a minute, you said that he'd learned everything there about how to destroy America, they taught him to cut his Afro, to infiltrate the political class, prepped him to take the presidency over eventually...you think he's purposely trying to destroy America?

Aaaah, yes! Root resorts to the I-never-met-a-_______ type of proof so often favored by the Republican Party. Oddly enough, Root specifically mentioned the methodology he thinks Obama has used, one which was advocated by a husband and wife team who created the eponymous Cloward-Piven Strategy: A way of eradicating poverty through a sort of chaos, by guaranteeing everyone a minimum income. As the couple wrote:

"The ultimate objective of this strategy—to wipe out poverty by establishing a guaranteed annual income—will be questioned by some. Because the ideal of individual social and economic mobility has deep roots, even activists seem reluctant to call for national programs to eliminate poverty by the outright redistribution of income."

He believes the president went to Columbia, learned from these professors, proceeded to destroy the economy, but he didn't really go to Columbia. Apparently, that makes sense to Mr. Root.

Wayne Allyn has been claiming this nonsense for a long time, and that's likely what captured Donald Trump's attention. While Trump is a Birther, Root is a Columbia Skeptic. It seems he's itching for a bigger job, and why not? He's just as qualified as the other fabulous Trump staffers, like Katrina Pierson. Anyone who questions the legitimacy of this economically feckless president will be propitiously viewed by the bloviating billionaire.

In fact, Trump chose Wayne Allyn Root to emcee his December 2015 Nevada rally, because he harbors hatred for the president at an equally irrational level.

Root mentions his time at Columbia far too frequently, and I imagine this is to gain more favor with the Wharton School graduate. Like Trump, who has an unusually manipulative grasp of the English language that allows him to get away with lying so easily, Root repeats Republican talking points ad nauseum. He fear-mongers about the stock market, false job numbers, the massive influx of illegals, and welfare and food stamp abuse. Sounds a lot like his hero.

Mr. Colmes explains that these statistics are based on facts and the economy, by all measures, is a heck of a lot better than back in January, 2009. According to the Libertarian pundit, none of these metrics are correct. He actually said,

"Either the president is a complete idiot or a jinx and everything he does is a mistake, a coincidence or a disaster; or he's purposely trying to do it (destroy the country)."

Alan asks him,

"Can you name one good thing he's done?"

Surprisingly, there is one thing. Root explains that the recently implemented National College Football Championship playoff system is the only comity the two share (Alan spelled out comity, in case the Fox News viewers didn't understand the homonym). Alan understands the Fox viewers and the fan base of Wayne Allyn Root. They all love simple, blunt and insulting (a.k.a. politically incorrect) language.
