Back in 1992, KKK leader Russell Hinson decided he was going to take his crossbow and a razor-tipped arrow and use it on an African-American person. It didn't much matter who he caught, as long as he got one.
16-year old Felicia Houston caught the arrow and died the very next day. After his conviction, the jury deadlocked on the death penalty and instead sentenced him to life in prison.
Evidently North Carolina doesn't have laws that resemble anything like life imprisonment without parole. That means Hinson gets to have a parole hearing every three years, and this is the year for one.
According to the Charlotte Observer, Hinson is asking for parole because he's found Jesus and has black friends.
Hinson's uncle, Dennis Long, says he's a changed man. "There's no hatred any more," says Long.
Long also says Hinson has "accepted the Lord six years ago, helps teach masonry classes, and has African-American friends."
Well, then. I guess that's all it takes to let a guy out? Just toss Jesus and some Black friends into a statement and all is forgiven.
I don't think so.
Someone should find out whether he admires Donald Trump. That will give us the true measure of the man.
