I love the paramilitary fantasies of these gun-loving patriots: Black Op Arms, indeed. The only people who actually took Mark Limoges' gun away were from Donald Trump's Secret Service detail, who insisted on removing the firing pin before he was permitted to present it to Trump. Via Mediaite:
If you’ve ever wondered what it would look like if a First Order stormtrooper did a cable news hit while his armor was at the dry cleaners, today is your lucky day. Mark Limoges, the New Hampshire gun owner who gifted a brand-new custom AR-15 to Donald Trump, not only came to the remote studio armed to the teeth, he held his weapon at the ready throughout the interview. To be fair, though, there’s only so much protection the double-box affords you when you’re up against deadly efficient killers like John Berman and Kate Bolduan.
Speaking of that interview, Berman asked Limoges about President Obama’s executive actions on gun regulation, which prompted the familiar, contradictory reaction that they’re so weak that “you’ll still be able to get guns no matter what,” but also that they are a “ridiculous” attempt “to disarm the American people.”
This prompted a disbelieving “Really?” from Berman, who got Limoges to admit that “No, maybe” Obama doesn’t want to take his guns away.
The thing about this guy is, he's not the usual motormouth conspiracy nut who rants on about the holiness of the Second Amendment. He's just your quiet, everyday guy who seems to believe everything he hears about Barack Obama's plan to disarm patriotic Americans like himself, and so clutches his metal security blankie even tighter.
Logic, of course, has nothing to do with it. Any rational person has noticed that the only mission obstacle presented to the federal government by Patriots With Guns is the public relations problem. The feds certainly have weapons powerful enough to overpower any of these "patriot rebellions," so that's not really a obvious motive.
Gee, might there be some other reason Obama wants to tighten gun sales?
Background checks are not "punishing the people who do it legally," dude. I know in your paranoid dreams, it's only the first step toward a police state, but it's mostly that normal people would actually prefer to go to the movies without worrying about being slaughtered in their seats. Or that divorced women would like to celebrate Christmas with their kids without their ex-husbands gunning them down. Or that parents would rather send their first-graders off to school without fitting them for a coffin the next day.
You know, the little things.
