Tom Shillue debated Alan Colmes about President Obama's emotional display last week. On this week's Versus, the right-wing 'comedian' said that the president's tears were sincere, but not real, during his heartfelt executive order announcement at the White House. It was a sincere effort to prevent the next mass shooting.
Shillue, on his late night TV show, Red Eye (airing at 3 AM Eastern) concluded that the 'president's solution to our problems is more Obama,' which is one of the myths promulgated by the those on the right. They claim that he is an arrogant, uppity Black man who is an imperial president, and a narcissist. Shillue and his fellow yakkers went on ad nauseum trying to prove this fallacy. Like any sentient being, Alan Colmes was positively perplexed at how Tom could misinterpret his sincerity as a display of good acting, and asked him to explain.
SHILLUE: I believe that he's sincere in his feelings but I think his tears were a bit of *undecipherable. He's quite good. He's a good speaker
COLMES: That doesn't mean he's insincere though.
SHILLUE: Well, I mean, I think when you're a performer, there's an element of insincerity to being a performer.
COLMES: Well you're a performer, so you lack sincerity?
SHILLUE: A little bit.
Tom joked that he didn't want to reveal the depth of his acting skills. Alan joked that perhaps the president, with his murky education history, forgot to include his study of the Uta Hagen Respect for Acting. It wasn't clear if Shillue had heard of the acting term or not.
COLMES: But if I were to talk about mass murders, people with guns, and it was very effective. You know that surveys show 67% of the American public reacted positively to his message on guns, whether you think it's sincere or not, contrary to what conservatives may agree, he resonated with 67% of the American public.
SHILLUE: Yeah, I mean, when you, when you hit the emotions when you go for the gut, you're usually going to, you know, do well. That's why Trump does well, he goes for the gut. it's not exactly in the same way. But he goes for ...
COLMES: Trump, the guy you're supporting?
SHILLUE: Well, I think he's an interesting guy. He goes for the gut and that's what works in politics. But I think that it is a little bit manipulative, especially when he's trying to, you know, he's trying to advocate his legislation, okay so...
COLMES: I think he truly felt and welled up at that moment thinking about dead children at the hands of guns, and it's sad that you think he would be manipulating people.
Shillue disagrees that politicians are taking bribes from the NRA, they are just a wholesome organization, in his mind. Alan made it very clear that he thinks it is the opposite. The host of Red Eye doesn't want to tarnish the pristine image of LaPierre's NRA.
Tom thought the W.H. ceremony should have been expressly to pay tribute to the deceased and not propose any new action. The entire right-wing agrees that it is wrong for President Obama to ever attempt to change legislation with regards to the easy accessibility of deadly weapons. It is also an affront to the sacred Second Amendment to increase the accountability of those who own firearms, and this is irrefutable evidence of his dictatorial nature. This isn't the right time for action, in fact, there never is 'a right time.'
These misanthropes espouse simple, worthless solutions. More guns. Fewer regulations. More private prisons. More militarized police. Lower taxes on the rich, which manifests in less money for neighborhood improvement, increased poverty and quashing social programs that lower crime. Every one of their solutions exacerbate the problem, that's why Republicans should never have any position of authority. They prove this time and time again when they reveal what's in their minds and their cold, dark hearts.
