Leave it to Fox News to make the bombshell news that Republican candidate Ben Carson was not, as he has repeatedly claimed, offered a scholarship to West Point about Hillary Clinton and Benghazi.
As everyone in the political world is buzzing about, Politico reported today that “Ben Carson’s campaign on Friday admitted, in a response to an inquiry from POLITICO, that a central point in his inspirational personal story was fabricated: his application and acceptance into the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.”
On Fox News' Outnumbered show, cohost Melissa Francis tried to put the best face on it by saying, “He would have gotten in, I’m sure, had he filled out the application.” However, she also acknowledged, “But he didn’t! That’s a big problem.”
But it was Greg Gutfeld, the show’s #OneLuckyGuy , who put on his amateur psychologist hat to acquit Carson as not guilty by reason of not being Hillary Clinton.
GUTFELD: This is a thing that you’re seeing more and more of among people in the public eye. When they have a great story, they still change it. He would have been fine with his story but he changed it. And I think a lie is often a coat of paint you put on a story that you’re bored with. It’s not necessarily for other people. It’s for yourself because you keep adding things. It’s like renovating an apartment. You just keep adding more – it is like putting a fresh coat of paint on a story. It’s not like a deliberate destructive lie, like Hillary Clinton, on Benghazi.
Cohost Andrea Tantaros conceded, “Now it puts a question mark over everything else that he has said.” But “Punch” Tantaros wasn’t going to go down without swinging at her political foes while she was at it. “This is a big issue because he’s a conservative. Because to Greg’s point, we see politicians lie and we see people lie. Hillary lied about getting shot in Bosnia, she lied about her grandparents’ ethnicity, being immigrants. But she’s a liberal. The media covers for her.”
Unlike Fox News that has really given Donald Trump a hard time about his lies, right, Andrea? Oh, wait.
But even Tantaros had to admit, “So can he overcome this and the other liars on the left? Probably not.”
