I've been writing like many of us have that the 2016 presidential election was going to about foreign policy because that's the only strategy Republicans felt like they could accomplish anything with.

Donald Trump began his campaign by fearmongering the "brown people" problem in America by calling them rapists and such and made immigration his number one issue and hasn't looked back since. He understood the hatred of undocumented immigrants that has been fueling the right wing extremists that have taken over the GOP.

Now with the terror attacks in Paris front and center in the news, the Republican presidential candidates are running around like chickens without their heads as they try to outdo one another as the most xenophobic candidate of all. Although Gov. Christie called for a Fed Ex tracking system for all undocumented immigrants, Trump pivoted off that by' calling for all Muslims to carry "special papers" so they can be tracked and identified.

What does this remind you of?

In an interview with Yahoo, Trump explained that the United States would have to implement new and draconian strategies to protect the homeland.

"We're going to have to do things that we never did before," he said. "And some people are going to be upset about it, but I think that now everybody is feeling that security is going to rule. And certain things will be done that we never thought would happen in this country in terms of information and learning about the enemy. And so we're going to have to do certain things that were frankly unthinkable a year ago."

What type of unthinkable things is Trump—who has also floated the idea of shuttering certain mosques—proposing? He says he's potentially open to the creation of a database to track Muslim citizens, or requiring that Muslim Americans carry a special form of identification noting their faith.

Will he create a "special" law enforcement agency to check these papers or will he deputize every American citizen, giving them the power to demand to see Muslims ID papers at anytime?
