Georgia boys see the Big Smoke for the first time.

Still pretty much just American college radio darlings at the time, R.E.M. made their first visit to the UK on this day, November 18th, in 1983. The Athens, GA band did their first appearance outside of North America by playing a live set on Channel 4 TV show The Tube.

The next night they made their live performance debut in England when they appeared at Dingwalls in London.
