You may be wondering why Susie Madrak, our managing editor, has gone silent over the past couple of days. She was in a nasty car accident on Sunday involving a hit-and-run driver. She's going to be fine -- just bruises, muscle pain and a dislocated thumb -- but her car? Not so much.
She's trying to raise money to replace her car so she can still get around.
Can you help?
I loved my Subaru Forester and took really good care of it. But yesterday a large SUV rammed into me, the car went into a spin and I rammed into a concrete underpass. (The guy who hit me took off. No one got his plate number.)
The tow truck driver shook his head and said, "You're lucky you were driving a Subaru. It would have been a lot worse." (See? Just like the commercials: "They lived.")
My dependable little car is, as it were, a dead parrot. The force of the impact broke the rear axle. It's totaled.
And no, I did not have collision insurance. I can't afford those kinds of frills. (I'm a blogger, not a hedge fund manager.)
