It wasn’t enough for “liberal” Greta Van Susteren to spend more than five minutes promoting the Republican anti-Iran nuclear deal rally. She also hosted her pal Sarah Palin as an expert on the subject.

Of course, Van Susteren didn’t wade very deeply into the weeds of the deal that Palin almost certainly knew very little about. But not to worry, Greta had her BFF Palin's back. In the most substantive part of the discussion, Van Susteren filled in most of the blanks for Palin and gave her an out for the rest.

Van Susteren began by admiringly describing Palin’s appearance at the rally, as “shredding the Iran deal, telling the protesters, ‘You don’t reward terrorism, you kill it.’”

Van Susteren supplied the anti-Iran deal talking points. “What’s the indication these people are not good - Iran - with the deal? Well, they’re past cheaters, they’ve threatened Israel before, even today. They fund terrorism, Hezbollah. They’re holding four Americans and they sponsor terrorism all over the world. That’s the bad side.”

“On the good side,” Van Susteren continued. “What is the one hint or clue that they’ll keep their side of the deal? Can you come up with one?”

Of course, Palin couldn’t. “No, I can’t," she said. "…For the life of me and probably most Americans, we have not received that message about what’s good in the deal.”

Had Van Susteren truly been “fair and balanced,” she would have brought up something good, at least what the supporters think is good, and asked Palin to explain why they’re wrong.

But either Van Susteren knew that her job was not to say anything to contradict the Republican demonization of the deal and/or she wanted to make sure not to put Palin on the spot with any demand for knowledge.

So Palin was allowed to spout platitudes like, “You’re either for Israel being put on the path toward destruction or you’re not. It’s not partisan.”
