From this Saturday's Melissa Harris-Perry show on MSNBC, the Bernard Center For Women's Michelle Bernard proved once again that facts just don't matter much if you're a Republican. While discussing Jeb(!) Bush's revisionist history during the second Republican "debate," and I use that term loosely, here's her response when asked about Bush saying that his brother "kept us safe."

BERNARD: I don't think that's what he was thinking. I think this was Jeb Bush actually drafting, you know, he was going to sort of hang out there and allow Donald Trump to implode, which eventually, I think is going to happen. From what we've seen from Jeb Bush so far, I think that's the best we've seen him.

If we don't, I don't want to say ignore. I don't want to take away in any sense that 9-11 happened. I think his point was that after 9-11, on his brother's watch, the United States was not attacked at home again and it gave him an opportunity to look like a leader, to be strong, to be emphatic, to be as Donald Trump would say, high energy. That moment and the moment when he protected his wife were I think his greatest moments in the second debate and he needed to do that.

HARRIS-PERRY: Yeah, but I've got to say that anthrax did happen after 9-11.

DIONNE: He is talking to Republicans.

Exactly. He knows his audience and they don't care about any stinking facts.

Speaking of Bush and facts, here's how he responded to Trump's birther moment this week: Jeb Hits Trump: Obama Is 'American' And 'A Christian':

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) on Friday night bashed his fellow Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump, who did not correct a man who said President Obama is a Muslim and was not born in the U.S.

"Barack Obama is a talented man -- and by the way he's an American, he's a Christian -- his problem isn't the fact that he was born here or what his faith is," Bush said in a Michigan speech, according to the Washington Post. "His problem is that he's a progressive liberal who tears down anybody that disagrees with him."

When asked later if Trump should have apologized, Buch said he "spoke to it" during his speech, according to the Post.

So Bush responded to Trump's lie by telling a big fat whopper of his own. Project much there buddy? Way to stay classy Jeb(!). I'd like to know just who he thinks he's winning over with bone headed statements like that as well.
