There is a segment of our population which simply cannot tolerate a happy ending for anyone who isn't white and Christian, so it was expected that there would be backlash against 14-year old Ahmed Mohamed. First, we had CJ Pearson, 13-year old already-bitter-but-enterprising kid who has been indoctrinated by conservative nonsense complaining, and now we have Megyn Kelly trotting out Mark Fuhrman to tell us all why the kid's invention shouldn't be believed to be a simple clock.

According to Fuhrman, Ahmed isn't an eager-beaver A student, but instead a passive-aggressive terrorist waiting to pounce, and police didn't overreact at all. Not one bit.

Transcript, via Media Matters:

MEGYN KELLY: Mark, I mean, you've got to feel bad for the kid. The kid not do anything wrong. But did the cops do anything wrong? Did the school do anything wrong? To a person, everybody who I've talked to says the thing looked like a bomb. It looked like a bomb.

MARK FUHRMAN: Well, certainly, Megyn, there's not very many people -- except for the bomb squad -- that actually knows what an explosive-timed device looks like. So, they were erring on the side of caution. You're talking about an English teacher, and you're talking about police officers that are put in the position that they have to do something. Now, I don't feel sorry for Ahmed, because he offered no explanation to the police. He wouldn't cooperate. He was passive aggressive by --

KELLY: Passive aggressive?

FUHRMAN: By all news reports.

[...]

FUHRMAN: I also feel like -- [CROSSTALK] I feel like there's a set up going on here. This kid isn't stupid. So when the police are there, he could have easily explained this. He says "call my parents. They know I've been building this. I've been building it for a long time." But he didn't.

Evidently Fuhrman hasn't been updated on the story, or he'd know that police knew it wasn't a bomb right away and were trying to hang the "hoax bomb" charge on him before they realized they'd even screwed that one up.

Because you know what hoax bombers do? They make bomb threats. Ahmed, on the other hand, said, "Hey, teachers, look at this cool clock I made in my spare time." Not a threat at all.

Fuhrman just can't let it go because he really does believe brown and black people are a threat to our existence. All those years he insisted he wasn't a racist? They're undone by appearances like this, where he claims no racism while making nothing but racist comments.

In this segment, Fuhrman also refers to "the Pop Tart kid," who made a pop tart in the shape of a gun. This is the current defense from right-wing hacks like Breitbart News, who are doing their level best to compare unfair treatment of a kid who bit a Pop Tart into the shape of a Glock to that of an eager A student who brought his CLOCK to school to show teachers.

When that Pop Tart Kid figures out how to make a clock out of a Pop Tart, maybe he'll get invited to the White House too.
