Donald Trump has the GOP donor and party establishment class very worried. He has the money to run and not be beholden to any of the mega donors that are trying to buy their candidate the presidency and that scares them. Chuck Todd joined the Morning Joe crew and helped get their feeling out with an unflattering take on Trump by calling him a "media bully." A presidential election is not for the squeamish and Todd says these people don't have the guts to confront him so he's gladly doing it for them. If that's the case, then these cowards shouldn't be in the business of politics.
It was very odd for a leading Sunday talk show host (Meet The Press) to regurgitate their talking points so willingly to the public at large. Especially when those doing the complaining are unwilling to speak for themselves.
CHUCK TODD: This is the problem with Trump. He doesn't play by a set of rules. And this is why campaigns complain to folks like me off the record but they don't have the guts to criticize him on the record because they know he's kind of a media bully. You know what I mean? He doesn't -- he plays by his own set of rules. He'll say whatever. He'll go on any platform to say it. And that's why I say, look, we've all --
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Is that a media bully or someone who, you know, doesn't --
TODD: We all have a responsibility here I think to say, you know, has he earned his way on this stage? I mean, again, we're four years removed from the ridiculous spectacle of birtherism.
JOE SCARBOROUGH: Chuck Todd. Ben Carson is at the top of the polls. I don't hear you, like, you know --- wearing sack cloth and ashes about Ben Carson.
TODD: The guy is legitimately trying to run for president. I think he's got -- putting out an actual agenda, doing policy speeches. Look, if this is what Trump does and he spends the next three months going after --
SCARBOROUGH: Wait. Wait. Ben Carson keeps comparing America to Nazi Germany, Chuck.
TODD: And I think it's something that --
SCARBOROUGH: I think your outrage is a bit focused on Donald Trump.
TODD: Well, look, I don't want to see the Republican primary race or any presidential race turn into a three-ring circus and us, you know, sitting there going isn't this great? And look at the shiny metal objects. It's not fair to what is the strongest Republican party presidential field in 36 years.
Why is Todd wondering if Trump has earned the right to be on the Cleveland stage? What's it to him? Why is he concerned that the GOP primary fight will be another three-ring-circus? Again, I ask, what's it to him? He's not supposed to be emotionally invested in any political party's plight. He's supposed to cover the political process as it unfolds and then report it accordingly. And then on Sunday, he's supposed to ask tough, pointed questions to get at the truth of things. By the way, Chuck. The GOP has been a three ring circus for a long time and Donald Trump only epitomizes their descent into madness.
Did Michele Bachmann, Newt Gingrich or Herman Cain earn the right to run for president in 2012? Why?
And Scarborough is right. Ben Carson says lunatic things all the time as does all of the GOP presidential hopefuls and they are not being singled out by Todd.
I think the beltway media still feel they know what's right for the American people and want to influence things as much as possible so the right people act in the appropriate manner they feel is right for America. Get it?
Todd could have discussed Trump and his opponent's feelings without spreading their talking points in such an agitated manner and it would have been fine, but then he wouldn't have received his gold stars of approval from the grand poobahs of the GOP.
