Even if 59% of Republicans are in favor of abolishing the embargo with Cuba, there are still a handful of Cuban-American Republicans who don't care what the majority thinks. They want to keep the half-century long trade embargo going, because Cuba isn't doing EXACTLY as they demand. They want to impose Democracy on the island nation, and don't think we should reestablish ties unless Cuba vastly changes its political policy.

Since Castro ascended into power, those wishing to flee the Communist government can immigrate to the U.S. with less stringent restrictions than any other Hispanic population.

77% reside in Florida and many have joined the Republican Party. In 2013, 47% of Cuban-Americans registered as Republicans. But native born Cuban-Americans are far more likely to identify with the Democratic Party. The painful memory of the 2000 election when Governor Jeb Bush literally handed Florida to his brother, was a time where there was a higher percentage of Cuban-American Republicans. Today, that feat, although possible, would be harder to accomplish.

The misery of the Cuban people is not due to our embargo. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen explains that this is all government-inflicted by the Castro Regime. Both Ileana and her buddy Marco Rubio are far too upset that dissidents were invited to a later ceremony, but not the big flag-raising ceremony. She calls this part of Secretary Kerry's 'Global Capitulation Tour.'

Jose Diaz-Balart asked Florida Republican Ileana Ros-Lehtinen how it was permissible to conduct trade with China and Vietnam, but not the island nation just ninety miles from our Mainland.
Ros-Lehtinen

"I am not here to apologize for China or Vietnam, I vote against them each and every time in the U.S. Congress. I think that's the wrong move. However one could make the case Jose, that the economy in China is open, American businesses are doing business in China. It's not the embargo that has prevented U.S. businesses to operate in Cuba....They don't even have economic freedom there.

Ileana Ros-Lehtinen wants us to simply impose Democracy, you know, like we tried once or twice before (Vietnam, Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan) and were just so successful in our endeavors. Republicans want to keep their obstinate views on reestablishing ties with a neighbor nation like Cuba because the Cuban Government won't do exactly as they demand.

The GOP wants Cuba open for U.S. Business immediately. In Republican Speak, we can only profit off Cuba after we invade and pillage the country, because America is really good at that. Fortunately, Republican hawks are not in control of the State Department, and we are able to conduct our relations with dignity and rationality, and that's the only way to go.
