It seems Republican bomb thrower Sen. Ted Cruz is desperate for attention now that Donald Trump is sucking all of the oxygen out of the room. President Obama went after not only Mike Huckabee for his outrageous statement about the Iranian nuclear agreement, but Cruz as well, who had the gall to say this about the recent negotiations.

In a news conference in Ethiopia, President Barack Obama responded at length to Mike Huckabee’s comment that the Iran deal is marching Israelis to “the door of the oven” — saying it was part of a pattern of attacks that “would be ridiculous if it wasn’t so sad.”

Without naming names, Obama said a senator who is a presidential candidate — an apparent reference to Texas Republican Ted Cruz — had said the president was a leading state sponsor of terrorism and another had referred to Secretary of State John Kerry as Pontius Pilate, a reference to remarks by Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark.

Obama said part of what made the United States great is that previously lawmakers considered foreign policy and issues of war and peace too serious for that sort of ad hominem attack.

Of course, the led to Cruz giving... you guessed it... another ad hominem attack on Sean Hannity's show on Fox this Monday night. Doubling down on the crazy and the meanness seems to be working for Trump, so hey, why not? Right?

Cruz is delusional enough to think that President Obama gives two whiffs about Cruz "challenging" him to a debate on the Iranian nuclear deal, if by "debate" you mean Cruz being allowed to lie like a rug with no penalty like he did on Hannity's show this Monday.

Here's more on Cruz's fearmongering from Fox's blog: Cruz: Iran Deal Makes Obama Admin 'Leading Financier of Radical Islamic Terror':

On "Hannity" tonight, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said that if President Obama's nuclear agreement with Iran goes through, the Obama administration will become the world's leading financier of radical Islamic terrorism.

Cruz pointed out that Obama attacked the GOP today, as opposed to disputing the fact that the nuclear deal empowers jihadists.

Cruz extended an invitation to Obama to debate the substance of the nuke deal at any time and place of the president's choosing.

"If he's so convinced he's right on the substance, I will welcome him anytime. And if he's unwilling to show up, he can send as a proxy John Kerry," Cruz said. "Let's debate the substance of how much this endangers the United States of America, Israel and the world."

"It's the single greatest national security threat facing America."
