One of Tuesday's Hot Topics on The View was the $135,000 fine levied on an Oregon bakery who refused to bake a cake for a lesbian wedding in 2013. The guest hostess, representing the evangelical, intolerant side was Kirk Cameron's little sis, Candace Cameron Bure, from Full House 'fame.' Right out of the gate, former Cosby Show star and View co-host, Raven-Symoné explained that one's religious liberty is not compromised by making a cake for a same-sex wedding. She pleaded her case very well, explaining that the belief in 'traditional' marriage is not jeopardized by a same-sex wedding. Both relationships are supposed to be based on love and our Constitution guarantees equality for all.

Candace, being a traditional, 'biblical' Christian famously admitted that women should submit to their husbands. Along those same Old Testament lines, shouldn't women be perfectly okay with polygamy? Nah, Cameron-Bure, like so many evangelicals, cherry-picks the parts she likes of her bible, so we should just abide by her mythology-based poppycock, no matter who is hurt in the process. She pleads,

''It's in the Constitution (it is?). They didn't refuse to bake the cake because of their sexual orientation, in fact they've baked cakes for them previously. They had a problem with the actual ceremony, because that, the ceremony is what conflicted with their religious beliefs.

Whoopi interjects,

'but were they invited to the ceremony?'

That's a pretty great question, because these people would simply be providing cake for a party, not sanctioning the union of two people in a marriage that your homophobic 'faith' has convinced you is morally wrong.

Raven-Symoné explains that this is akin to the religious objection that people once used to discriminate people who wanted an interracial marriage. Discrimination based on religion has been going on for centuries, and Cameron-Bure knows damned well that she is on the losing side of a historical precedent. But the former child star wants to equate her prejudice with a more tolerant view of her hate, as if it's simply a matter of disagreement that has trivial consequences. She ignores, obviously, the gleeful celebrations that followed the SCOTUS announcement on marriage equality on June 26th.

Of course, Nicole Wallace, ex-Bushie, validates this as a real issue by comparing it to the birth control controversy of the Hobby Lobby fascists who think they should control a woman's reproductive freedom, and says the 'law at this point, is still up in the air.'

Watch at around the three minute mark, things get really heated. Cameron-Bure says something that ticks off Raven-Symoné enough to make her turn her back on the proselytizing fundamentalist.

'Here's the other thing that I really wish that we could do as a society, as a culture, as a country is to RESPECT that we have opposing views,

Comedienne, Michelle Collins says,

That's different than opposing views.

So Cameron-Bure pleads,

no, no, no, NO! But we can be respectful to agree to disagree...

Collins comments, after Symoné turns her back on Cameron-Bure, and cautions,

'Raven is about to rocket ship into space!'

Raven says she will agree to disagree, but adds,

'but I also think that if you're going to be a religious party, or if you're going to be somebody that believes in an almighty being, you should be respectful from the get go.'

Candace says,

'but they were respectful.'

After some more tense talk, the wholesome Christian Republican says to the angry host,

'don't shush me!'

Simoné calms down and hugs the guest host reluctantly, clearly annoyed by her attitude. The tension in the air was pretty apparent.

Finally, I saw Whoopi take a stand on controversial subject without being a both siderist, don't-rock-the-boat, hostess. She took a stand on those who choose to be in the service industry, where if you know you will have to serve people from all stripes, try being tolerant from the get go. She said,

All I know is when there was a separation of church and state, WE DIDN'T HAVE THESE ISSUES.

Don't go into a service business that may put you in contact with people you don't agree with. Clearly, get over your damned selves was her attitude.

Goldberg cautions that this will gradually lead us into the abortion debate, so of course Candace gleefully exclaims,

'Let's GO!'

Of course she's thrilled, because a fundamentalist zealot never wastes an opportunity to scold those who believe in the honest to goodness freedom upon which this nation was founded. But then, Whoopi summarizes things nicely,

'it is not your right to dictate what I can have if I don't believe what you believe.'

AMEN!

Collins, Goldberg and Symoné side with the majority of Americans who think that a person's religious beliefs are not damaged in any way by being accepting of same-sex marriage. Of course, the two Republicans on the panel believe there should be freedom to discriminate and hate, because we all know this is the platform of the Party of No.
