I was skeptical about this clip of Lindsey Graham talking about Joe Biden. Skeptical, that is, until I watched it. I don't think there's any doubt that his tears were genuine, his emotion heartfelt.

"He's the nicest person I think I've ever met in my whole life," Graham said.

As he spoke of Beau Biden's death, he said, "We don't agree on much, but I think he's been dealt a really gut blow."

It was a really special moment, and a rare one where bitter partisanship is set aside in favor of being human. It's one of the few times I've seen any Republican treat an opponent with something other than a body blow.

However, I do want to say this. It is unfathomable to me that Senator Graham can have such high regard for Vice President Biden, and such a heart for his loss, yet advocate for unwarranted, wanton killing in Iraq and surrounds. There is some kind of disconnect there, where he has managed to dehumanize the people living in Iraq to the point where he has no problem hardening his heart and pushing for more war with them.

And what of the soldiers he would send? Where is his heart for them, for their families?

I would like to think Senator Graham might stop and think about how "life can change just THAT fast" for those people, too. People who did not threaten or hurt us in any way.
