The right wing media and the beltway press has been buzzing all over Hillary Clinton's rope-a-dope with journalists from the 4th of July weekend. (I guess it could be called RopeGate) She had the audacity to put a barrier between them and her attempts at talking to average Americans.
At the Fourth of July parade Hillary Clinton marched in today in Gorham, New Hampshire, reporters following the candidate were kept — and at moments, dragged — behind an actual moving rope line. The rope, which two Clinton staffers held on to on either side, was meant to give Clinton space as she walked down the parade route, but photos of reporters being dragged behind the rope as she marched have gone viral on Twitter.
If you've watched any of the cable news networks, you'll hear most of the on air talent complain about how rude Hillary was and how bad the optics looked for a presidential candidate, but by a wide margin, Fox News' Greg Gutfeld had the single most unintelligent, intellectually dishonest, conspiracy laden, bag of dog poo regarding the incident on the opening segment of The Five, Monday afternoon. He threw in every right wing talking point and wingnut wet dream about Benghazi and everything else in the middle at Hillary to smear her - as well as attacking the beltway press for being culpable for her crimes and stumping for her campaign.
Usually Roger Ailes has a certain type of blond haired TV anchor in mind so I'm not sure how he thought Greg Gutfeld was a conservative funny man when he's nothing more than a tepid, gas guzzling court jester.
(I want to thank our Heather for writing up the transcript)
Gutfeld: Hillary doesn't care for borders, unless they're around reporters. Witness this July 4th parade in New Hampshire where she had her mopy minions cinch reporters from her majesty, protecting her from their sweaty paws, lame questions and relentless Starbucks breath.
Initially the reporters were allowed to "mull around this rarely seen political Sasquatch, but then were herded away like pimply-faced One Direction fans, as if their unimportance was as contagious as herpes. It was a rodeo without saddles.
But do you blame Hillary? Hearing the press complain about being pulled by a rope, is a little rich after being happily lassoed for seven years by captain awesome. The fact is Hillary should expect nothing less than a pack of leashed puppies around her ankles since the press already tows her gender-rich line.
Locked into a historical first strategy, soaked in a sea of identity politics, the press knows Hillary is entitled to the crown. And while they might complain about the quarantine, it beats having to question her at all about emails, Benghazi and that foundation.
Which is cool, because who wants to make her uncomfortable with the facts? If you do that, a Republican might win. See, the press is secretly grateful that they're being kept at a distance. It's exactly what they need to keep them from doing their job.
And so Hillary isn't really shielding herself from reporters. She's boxed them in with her own progressive assumptions. Knowing they can't challenge her entitled thrown, the press are now just pet turtles in a shoebox you sometimes forget to feed.
Wow, just wow.
