I've heard mixed reviews of the HBO series The Brink which adds a comedic touch to the threat of world annihilation vis a vis the United States' foreign policy. The show stars Tim Robbins as 'Walter Larson,' a sex-crazed Secretary of State. At times, I have found the show a little lacking, but it has been renewed for a second season, so I think it has some merit.
The show features a collaboration of some highly accomplished comedic creators.
There are some impressive comedy credentials behind the scenes of “The Brink” — Roberto Benabib, one of the creators, was a writer for Showtime’s “Weeds,” and Jay Roach, an executive producer, directed the Austin Powers movies and “Meet the Parents.”
This particular clip features a scene where Robbins' character is trying to get a meeting with his Israeli counterpart. He threatens the liaison with a cessation of U.S. military aid and claims to be on great terms with Jewish Senators like Chuck Schumer and Diane Feinstein. The Israeli character named 'Talia' shuts him down pretty quickly with this pronouncement.
'It's not the Jews that protect us, it's Texas, South Carolina, Mississippi. It's your right-wing, neocon, 'Super-Christians.' And they don't even like Jews. They just need us here to keep the lights on for their fucking Messiah!'
No truer words have ever been spoken. I suppose one of the writers for Showtime's hit series, 'Weeds' likely has Liberal sympathies, so expect more 'left-wing' perspectives in the future.
