Meet the Press host Chuck Todd spent some time talking to the new GOP "king maker" Mitt Romney this Sunday, and after allowing him to toss a bunch of stink bombs at Hillary Clinton on foreign policy with zero push back, Todd asked Romney is he had any advice for this year's 2016 Republican presidential contenders.
TODD: What mistakes do you feel like you made that you would tell a Jeb Bush, a Marco Rubio, a Scott Walker, if they're the nominee to avoid?
ROMNEY: Well, they each have their own kind of mistakes, but in my case I think the biggest mistake I made was not focusing very early on, on minority voters, Hispanic Americans, African Americans, Asian Americans. Our policies, as a conservative group of people, or policies are designed to help people get out of poverty and to see rising incomes.
And the policies of the opposition party are to talk about that, but they don't help people get out of poverty. We have seen that. They don't create jobs. Hillary Clinton said famously that businesses don't create jobs. How in the world can you be so out of touch as not to realize that if we want to have better jobs for people, we want small businesses to grow and thrive.
That's what we'll do. Each of our candidates needs to communicate that to minority voters and if we do, I think we're going to see a lot more minority voters say, “You know what? I hear the rhetoric, but I also see the record, and I want to work with the people who are going to get me a better job and rising incomes.”
Todd of course, did zero follow up on this topic as well, like asking Mitt Romney just which policies he's talking about that the GOP supports that is supposed to help the working class. Trickle-down economics? Tax cuts for the wealthy? Gutting our social safety nets? Being opposed to raising the minimum wage? Attacking labor unions and workers' right to organize? Shipping our jobs overseas?
Or maybe he could have asked Romney why anyone should believe him after the racist remarks he made, where he blamed his loss to President Obama on the President giving "gifts" to minorities and young people in order to win their votes.
Todd also couldn't be bothered to give some context to that quote of Hillary's on businesses creating jobs, and the fact that she was talking about the fact that trickle-down economics has failed.
Chuck Todd continues to prove that he's more worried about access than asking any Republicans on his show tough questions.
